Kumu Hula Keali’i Reichelからのメッセージ

Aloha and welcome!

This summer, with the help of Kumu Kokua Chihiro Shinshiro we are opening an extension of my Maui-based Halau in Tokyo.
For the past ten years I have held various workshops in Japan to share my mele and dance style. When those workshops were finished, I rarely saw those students again – which to me had no long-term cultural value.
It is our intention that by expanding our Halau to Tokyo we will be able to pass on our unique Hula heritage to the same students over a long period of time -thus ensuring that the chants, dances and mele that we teach will be retained in the proper way.
I have total confidence in Kumu Kokua Chihiro, that through her already extensive training and with our ability to visit Japan once every 2 months as well as utilizing internet/digital video technology, much will be accomplished.
Only serious students who are willing to make a strong commitment to learn Hawaiian culture, language, and dance will endure on this path.
I look forward to meeting with you as we begin a new chapter in our Halau.
The work will be difficult, but the rewards will be great!
